Hey everbody, whats good? I had my first open spot for headlining comedian Dave Stone this past Friday and...it went GOOOD. I didn't kill but I brought good energy and though the crowd was a little stiff (most Fridays are for some reason) some of my material really kicked ass. I did have some room to fill the silence of my stories with more punchlines, it's kinda a known thing that the longer the story the better the punchline. But I should work on filling my stories with more liners to keep the funny going and that will come with time. I couldn't record my set but that's alright there wasn't a big crowd to really peak the recording.
What I was most proud of was how I felt on stage. I was a little nervous beforehand, I read my notes like 48 times over. But once I was announced I had this feeling of calm come over me and I just went right into my act (didn't even need the notes). I was loose and I really flowed thru my material. Most of all I felt good about it AFTER I got off stage. Obviously there are always a couple things that I would change or add (I forgot to finish with my "Clubbing" bit) but I was really pleased with how I did. Ha, and I drank heavily (which was the understatement of the year) in victory not defeat...O an I left with a "New Friend" in tow, Success!!
Saturday was also incredibly fun..Paul Gallois (the feature act) and Dave Stone we're great guys and really cool to talk with, especially about the stand up craft. They used alot of self deprecating humor and after talking with them I'm gonna really make an effort to share more of mine. After the show some of the guys & some of the local comics went out and grabbed some food an just were kickin it for awhile..real cool
Just Gotta Keep Standin UP!!!
Dawg, glad to hear you did well man. Biggest thing with comedy is perseverance. In the past couple of weeks, I've seen you become a little more personal with your jokes which is were I think your strength along with your storytelling is. I'm always reminded by a quote Piccolo dropped my way which is "your style is defined by what you can't do."
