Just Gotta Keep Standin UP...

Ok, I have recently started to notice/put together "myself" on stage. Like when I'm just out chilling and I get people laughing but on stage.

I have as of late (more often a larger crowd) am relaxed to the point that I'm just talking to the crowd but about my topics. I went up two weeks ago and in my opinion killed and I knew it the moment that slammed the mic back in the stand. Anyone who has scene me on stage or even rapping over 808's and Heartbreak would have to agree I was myself in front of the crowd and made my material and stories got all the crowd to laugh. And last night was a little more of the same. I gotta say when it all clicks its so smooth.

That being said... I need to gain a better crowd work game. I'm dead in the water when I'm in front of a small crowd and I'd be the first to tell you. Some of the other comics have been tell'em me to pick things out about the crowd or surroundings and just fuck with it. I understand whats their saying but I still haven't figured it out yet. I tried one night to "talk to the crowd" and I bombed for a solid 4mins...hilarious.

Last Monday I went out of North Carolina and I went all the way to!?!?! South Carolina like an hour n a half from where I live. Anyway, it was a competition (my 2nd) and some fellow comics and I were entered and one of us got through to the next round (nice!). But the crowd was like 7 people and some of them just voted for one of the comics (weak). What I noticed though was that the comics who did good crowd work got the most laughs. Some just dropped their material all together and just chatted the crowd up. I really to get this down to round me out in my comic development.

I want to be a well rounded comedian. Material to crowd work to even hecklers. The only way is to keep gettin up as many times as I can. I always say keep standing up but its the truth. I know I should be recording more of my sets and I will try and do so, but I'm not trying to tell everyone or get exposure. I want my material and my ability to speak for itself. And the only way to get there is to practice which is something foreign to me.

But I think I'm gonna really try this. I mean what the hell right?!?!? and that's why I Keep Standin UP!
