My Set 4/5/12

O fantastic the night friends come to town that I've known since I was 5 and watch me do my passion, the thing that I'm claiming I want to do with my life.....and I get a fuckin heckler. Really? Rhe he healllly. It would have really bothered me lets say a year and a half ago. But...and I don't openly say this often, I am a Comedian. I don't get heckled often but if someone starts with me I'll hang their ass out to dry. Why? Because I'm a Comedian.

My Set 3/17/12 - St. Patricks Day Showcase

This past St Patricks Day I was in the showcase show with 8 other great comics around Wilmington NC and I think I did pretty good. I did however try something new that I maybe shouldn't have and I'm regretting talking to that couple in the beginning which kinda threw me off my flow. I definitely have to start shaping my sets around the crowd because I'm not always gonna get drunk college kids for a crowd. I did have some full room laughs and it was great to get some "bigger show" experience. Anyways enjoy some fresh Zack Burk Standup.......

Alllllrighty then heres my last set of what I'm calling a successful comedy year. I think I grew as a comic this past year. I can't say I've gotten "funnier" but I starting to recognize what my faults are and where I can improve so that my jokes hit better. I can say a bunch of other shit but the bottom line is this was just another set thats heading me in the right direction...and I'm not stopping anytime soon!

My Set 12/1/11

So I completly forgot (like all month forgot) to throw my 12/1 set up on here and damnit if I didn't do pretty good. I really liked how I intro'ed my bullying stuff. I am in the process of tweaking the "How Bigs Yo __" bit for this week so that should be a fresh take. The Caracter: ZB "Mr. OG" 11/11/11

So I haven't even seen this all the way through and for good reason cause it certainly wasn't my best. But I got up there and did my thing and I was proud (and still am) that I tried something new and am exploring my comedic potential. I feel its important (especially early on) to try all the comedy lanes I can so I can become a complete comic. I see alot of comics just become happy with how their comedy is and never push the boundaries and that bores me. It might not have been pretty but trying something new once in awhile definitely keep my mind loose and excited about what I truly can become in the future. So without further ado here ya go....and of course Enjoy Yo 'Self!!!

My Set 11/10/11

Heres my set from last ThursD. I definitely gotta strengthen up my punchlines on some of my current bits and really have to focus on saying the right setup every time so the punchlines really stick. I have improved abit on my freelance crowd work (which I've been working on) but after dealing w/ a heckler/talker I notice I lose my flow with my actual material. I gotta remember to stay in my lane and stay a little more focused up there. If I'm this possessed to improve something good is bound to happen I just gotta Keep Standin UP!

My Set 10/6/11

So here's my most recent set. Alot of new(er) material lately some good and well ya know. It was shot from the back so ya might wanna click 'up' or your speakers.

Lately I have been trying a more relaxed style and its enabled me to work with the crowd all deliver my material in more of that "just talk with the audience" style or be able to "just have a conversation". Lemme know what ya think....Just Gotta Keep Standing UP!

Sorry For The Wait...

Allll righty then...I'm back! Definitely gotta admit I've been droppin the ball on the updates lately but we're back on track.

So we're going back two weeks ago (and NO I don't have video of my set jdub). I tried out alot of new material including a joke about the TV show called "Strange Sex" which has been hitting pretty well. Recently I have been going to a small club on Mondays with the other local comics as a fun stand-in for our roundtable meetings.

That night I had a mini breakthrough, doing some really good crowd work in the beginning of my set and definitely connecting with the crowd early. I talked about how I was watching the show Californication and all the women on the show always say "I'm wet" and I riffed on that saying/asking the women in the audience "Are you ladies really getting that wet?" and it definitely went over well.

When I ended my set on the Strange Sex/Sexomina bit I knew I did a solid set and it was well received. Some people are starting to "know who I am" around town and i gotta say its a pretty cool feeling and it only keeps the fire going to "Keep Standin Up"....

My Set 9/8/11

So I went first last night (cause I'm a boss) and I did well with some new material. I really gotta fill my "fight" story with more jokes and also really know where to hit with my funnies. Above all I really gotta fucking relaaax up there. I feel like it's a performance and well duhh it is but I really gotta just go up an talk to them like I do when I'm just chopping it up with people and there's no mic around. I'm definitely going to watch this one a couple times and see where I can really make these two bits into heavy hitters. Stay Tuned!!!

My Set 9/1/11

"Awww here it goes" as Kel Mitchell would say. Really fun night last night. Free drinks good looking women and a (almost) fight, what more could ya ask for...o wait funny comics! I think I did well last night all things considered (I hate running the booth), there was a great heckler last night that who (shocker) was the same dude starting shit and looking to fight after some of the comics ripped him on stage. By the time he said something to me the crowd was so sick of his mouth they told him to shut up, hilarious. Still need to work on connecting with the crowd/crowd work. I feel like there's a little more pressure on me now cause kats are traveling in (some hours away) to tell jokes at Nutt St. Now this wouldn't really bother me except a couple of these kats look like me (Mc'lovinish) and lately I've been following them. I know it shouldn't matter because I have to do MY thing but it's like the crowd see's the same proportioned person and expect the same thing. I also feel like when I think joke I get bogged down but when I'm just talking/sharing somthing it comes out so fluid an organic. I think I have to keep doing this not just because I love grabbing the mic but because I gotta see how good I can become. But I digress, another night and another step forward!

*Sidenote: Gotta try an share more of my funny personal stories (like jumping into a fight b/c I've never been in one)
